SGC #9

I cant believe, at Southern Girls, we are up to Challenge 9 already!
Because it is such a busy time of year, Louise and Trace have made the topic easy! Anything Goes! Lou and Trace are sponsoring the INT entries and we are lucky enough to have a great sponsor for Aust/Nz entries, Deb's Creations! Check out, here, the amazing cards and layouts the DT have made with her very, very cute fairy digis. Below, in my layout I have used the very cute, Ebony! See if you can find her hiding in the garden!

Merry Christmas!

It is actually Boxing Day, but I hope everyone had a joyous family Christmas! I just love having the family get togethers at Christmas time and today, I am feeling very relaxed now everyone has gone home!!
Just a photo of the cards and boxes made at the last minute for the kids. I like to give them a Christmas decoration each year, so made these little boxes to put them in. These acetate cards were very quick to make. The snowflakes have tinsel glitter on them.
Off to sit outside in the shade and read a magazine! Such glorious weather!!
Cheers,
Sue

Southern Girls Challenge #7

Check out the Southern Girls Challenge for this fortnight. There is a great prize to be won by a NZ/Aust enrty and another by International entrries. We would love to see your cards, layouts or OTP items.
The topic is 'use heat'.
Here is my DT example.
I have used a candle to burn around the edge of the PP. The turtle in the deck chair is using the 'Tropical Herbert' digi stamp from one of this weeks sponsors, Karen's Doodles. I have stamped and coloured him, mounted it on chipboard and then used embossing powder (more heat) to give a shiny chipboard embellishment look.
The coconut tree is from the same image set and I printed it onto tranparency and then transfered it, as a rub-on, to the background paper.

Cheers :)

Tomorrow the GRAND PRIZE will, also, be drawn. Be sure to check back to the Scottie Crafts blog tomorrow.
How cool are all these goodies to be won by one of you lucky ladies!!

Ok! Off we go!
My project uses Cricut products, but, apart from the large doily, can be easily adapted using other dies and punches.
BUT...
For this weekend only, Scottie Crafts is offering 2 only, Cricut Expression Machines for $649.99, including 4 cartridges!! Now that could be top of your Christmas list and under your Christmas tree! It is the most awesome of toys!!

Christmas Table Centrepiece
Materials:
Martha Stewart Elegant Cake Art Cricut cartridge
Christmas papers -2 sheets of red, 1 sheet green, 1/2 sheet blue (aqua)
4 kitchen glass tumblers
Dble-sided tape, Glue Dots, liquid glue
Kindy Glitz

1. Using the Cricut cartridge 'Martha Stewart Elegant Cake Art', cut:
Red paper - 8 scallop circles at 3inches, 4 lace borders at 1inch, 1 large doily at 11inches
    Green paper - 2 of each letter, N, O, E, L at 2 1/2 inches, 4 scallop borders at 1"
    Blue paper - Shadow of letters (2 of each) N, O, E, L at 2 1/2", 8 bows at 1"
(If any cricut owner would like the cricut cut files, please email me)

2. Layer the green and red lace border strips and attach, with double sided tape, to the lower edge of the tumbler. Trim if needed. Add bows, as shown, with a Pop Dot. Decorate with Kindy Glitz.

3. Layer and glue a green letter to corresponding blue shadow letter. Glue the letters to red scallops and decorate around the letter and the scallop with Kindy Glitz.

4. Pop Dot one scallop to 2 opposite sides of the tumbler. (As a centrepiece it will be seen from both sides)
Hint: Put the 'L' behind the 'N', the 'E' behind the 'O' etc. Otherwise the other side will read 'LEON'
(been there, done that! Doh!!)

5. Arrange with flowers and place on the large red doily! ( I used dried muehlenbeckia twigs to hold my flowers).
Happy Crafting!!! :)

P.S. Check out my last blog entry to see the leafy frame on my layout - another gorgeous cut from this Elegant Cake Art cartridge.

Cheers and thanks for stopping by x

A Day in Paradise

While in Aitutake, friends took us out in their boat for a dream day at some outer islands. We snorkelled, wandered on the whitest sand bars and had lunch at their little hideaway bach on One-Foot Island. We took salad and buns etc with us and Andrew cooked fresh marinated tuna, on the BBQ. What an awesome day!!
This is a quick, mostly Cricut cut layout! The leafy/flower frame is cut from my new Elegant Cake Art cartridge. This cart is so cool! It is designed by Martha Stewart and includes a lot of her punch shapes, e.g lace and lace borders.
The letters I cut from the Storybook cartridge, which I have layered with a shadow letter and covered with Glossy Accents. The other flowers and leaves are from my stash of left-overs from other projects!

Check my blog  tomorrow ( my blog-hop day) for a great special on Cricut products at Scottie Crafts! Meanwhile pop over to Sarah's blog today for Day 5 of the Blog-hop and see her wonderful project, prizes and specials on offer!

Last project for Celebrate NZ comp!

For the last project in the Celebrate NZ competition at Scrapbook Outlet, we were sent a mystery product that we had to use! I cant say that I was thrilled when I opened the envelope to find a set of Kaiser wooden dolls!! Not what I imagined at all! For a start, it meant an 'off-the-page' project. Anyway after the initial "oh no!", I decided to get some positive thoughts happening!
As Christmas is sneaking up all too fast I decided to "think decorations" and came up with this set of angels for the mantlepiece.
Actually, I am quite chuffed with them and even tho' its a tad early to start decorating, they can stay on the mantlepiece until after Christmas!

Photoshop play!

This is my entry for the Week 8 comp over at Scrapbook Outlet. The theme was Maori Design and we had to include some paper weaving and?or korus (swirls). I paper weaved 4 hearts to make a flower (took hours LOL!) I then embossed them with clear. I also clear embossed the fussy cut swirls. I was playing in photoshop the other day and got this cool effect on this photo of my DS's GF and so wanted to use it. She was dressed for a friend's Arabian night's party.
So.. this is what I came up with! I had so much fun doing this LO!

Celebrate NZ- Sports

I have had this wonderful photo of Emma which I took while she was training. At the time Lloyd was working with Danyon Loader in Christchurch and Danyon signed the photo as a surprise birthday present. I have taken it out of the frame and scanned it, because I thought it was perfect for this NZ Sports challenge! Danyon was a NZ gold medal Olympian in butterfly. Em managed a bronze at NZ champs before having to give up with a back injury.

Song title

The challenge for Week 7 at Scrapbook Outlet was to use a song title or words. I chose Neil Finn 's (Split Enz, 1980) I Got You. Jeff is always acting the goat and teasing Aimee and this song had such appropiate words that I had to use for the journalling. "I got you - that's all I want." "You show me- tell me you're not teasin'." "You can see my eyes, you can tell I'm not lyin'" I added a bit of black paint in the background, some TH music tape and a handmade flower embellishment using cricut cut leaves and TH tattered flowers die.

Southern Girls Challenge is up!!

So exciting!! The very first Southern Girls Challenge has been posted here! It is going to be so exciting having a challenge that is for cardmakers and scrapbookers alike. There is going to be a new challenge posted every two weeks with 2 randomly selected prize winners, one for entries from NZ and Australia and the other prize for entries from the rest of the world. We will also post a few of our favourites on the blog, after each challenge.
The two wonderful sponsors for this first challenge are Scrapbook Outlet with some very yummy goodies for a lucky 'Downunder girl' and Wink Wink Ink (which has the coolest digi stamps) for the 'rest of the world'.
We have a very talented group of girls from all over the world on the DT, so if you havent already, pop over to the Southern Girls Challenge Blog and check them out!

This is my layout for the first challenge - Anything Goes! I decided to use the very cute 'Owlfie' stamp by Wink Wink Ink.

Birdlife in the garden

I looked out the window this morning and saw these three cock pheasants strutting around. I had to grab my camera! One thing about these drizzly winter and early spring days that I love, is seeing the birds that come out into the garden. Here are some pics that I have taken over recent days.

Another wedding LO!

The week 5 topic at Scrapbook Outlet, Beaches/water, gave me an excuse to get another wedding photo scrapped. Some may say that because I am into the second album (mostly because I could only get 15 into the first one!) that I might have enough!! But the photos taken by Aaron Lang Photography, are so gorgeous, I just want to scrap them all!

I made all the pink flowers with a Cristina Re paper that has a gorgeous sheen that went well with the shiny Bazzill. The fussy cut flowers are from a piece of K&Co paper that I have had for years. The pearls and journalling tag are Prima. I love the new Tim Holtz paper music tape that I got from Scotty Crafts! I also added a little bit of paint to frame the photo.

Fun challenge

A white space challenge! The Week 4 challenge at Scrapbook Outlets NZ, Celebrate NZ comp, was Remoteness, so we had to do a LO with white space! It co-incided with a little fun challenge I was having with a friend, to do a black and white space LO with a pop of colour. LOL! Good timing! I have to say that white space is growing on me! The journalling says "Celebrate her Kiwi Ingenuity in buying a pair of children's slipperswith grip rubber soles to put over her own boots that were slipping on the snow and ice. The 2 hour walk and views was worth the few $ for the socks" Queenstown, Skytrail, 2010

Quick LO and some cards

I cut this tree out from the Cricut Heritage cartridge for another layout and didnt use it, some Echo park alphas and border strips from last months SBS kit and a Sassafrass journalling sticker all left over from recent projects. I used my favourite Martha Stewart border punch and a gorgeous Prima flower. I have taken a bit of a fancy to doing LO's with white backgrounds lately!

At our local craft group last month, Elspeth gave the challenge. She gave us 2 pieces of beautiful Cristina Re papers, one pattern, one plain and we had to make 2 or 3 cards. These are mine.

New Challenge Blog

There is a new challenge blog starting "downunder" called Southern Girls Challenge. You can find them here!
Yay! I love a challenge! I have sent this LO in below for their DT call. Looking forward to them getting underway!
This photo of Em was taken 23 years ago and I had just finished making her these new little overalls from a Burda pattern. Note that I have put a bit of the same Snoppy ribbon on the layout as is on her overalls! How is that for being a hoarder!!! I still have about 30cms left so I guess one day the Grandies will end up with a piece somewhere! Oh dear!

20 August, 2010

I have been doing the Celebrate NZ comp over at Scrapbook Outlet. I am really enjoying the challenges so far.
Week 2 _ Black and white.
I have been wanting to do this photo of Lloyd for a while. When he was training as an aircraft engineer he needed extra money for living and a friend talked him into doing a bit of modelling. He didnt make his fortune, but at least we got a few nice photos! I love the Tim Holtz cogs which I ran through the cuttle bug swirl folder. The transparency is Prima and I added lots of tiny buttons top LH corner.

This is Week 3_ no 8 wire:
For my wire feature I carried on the fence that was in the photo behind Grandfather and made some red wire flowers which I layered with the burnt orange flowers. I made a flower using my new Tim Holtz flower die. I like the way the colours came together in this LO.

Some Scrapbook Studio LO's

I have been getting a bit behind in posting my Lo's. Today I thought I would catch up a little and post some that I have done over the last few months with Scrapbook Studio DT papers.

It was so exciting to see these two get engaged! A wedding in Sydney coming up in October next year! Another shopping trip to buy an outfit! Bother!! LOL!! So cant wait!
I love these beautiful Sassafraslass, Indie girl, papers. I havent done a lot of white space layouts and felt like trying something new. I could get hooked on white space! It was fun!

Bright Pink Paislee this time. The kids had just had a fun night at a friend's 25th birthday party. I just loved this photo and it was sent to me at just the right time to use in a LO with these bright papers! The background paper was left over from cutting flourishes on the cricut and had escaped the rubbish bin. I alcohol inked some bling and used a Thickers flourish.

The Hen's Party, a wine tour on Waiheke Is, was so much fun!!! Our tour guide had a great sense of humour and thought a photo shoot outside the Ram's rugby league club was appropiate for the occasion! The journalling is on the tag tucked into the LHS of the photo. The paper is a cool Bo Bunny Dot and a Hambly transparency. I made the flower using organza, my heat gun, Diamond Dust and a Prima centre.

This LO was fun! It was for Lisa's challenge to do a layout with the title "Attitude is Everything". You also had to include a stamp, fabric and some fussy cutting. I did a take on the title, "Cattitude is Everything" and boy! does this cat have attitude. She is definitely Queen around here!

Sketchy Thursday with Echo Park

This month my kit from Scrapbook Studio included stunning papers from the Echo Park range, Sweet Summertime. These papers have very cool bright colours and designs. For my first LO I have used the sketch from over at Sketchy Thursday!
